| ► Private Piano Lessons |
|
Private piano
lessons allow students to progress at their own pace.
Private instruction covers music reading, technique and artistry, music
theory, and performance coaching.
A variety of
styles may be taught such as classical, pop, jazz, and Christian music,
according to the student's interests. Following the individual
instruction,
students complete an assignment in the music lab.
Excellent music software, videos, CDs, listening examples and worksheets are
available to accomplish a variety of objectives, such as
improved speed
of note and chord recognition, accuracy of rhythms, knowledge of musical
styles, eras, and composers, and more.
Students
can start private lessons as young as 5 years old.
Children not yet in first grade must schedule a meeting with the teacher to
assess readiness for private piano study.
Students can start private
lessons any time of the year so there's no need to wait to get started.
Contact the school office to see which times and days are available. |
| ► Group Lessons - Piano |
Group lessons
for the beginning to early intermediate student, provide a psychologically
sound atmosphere for learning through teamwork, positive peer influence, and
frequent classroom performance opportunities. Students are grouped
according to age and ability. The piano classroom is equipped with
digital pianos with headphones. During a typical class, the students will
play some pieces aloud in unison. This reinforces the necessity of playing
with a steady beat and accurate rhythm. At other times, each student will
play a section of a piece by turns, providing each student the chance to be
heard by himself, while teaching the rest of the class to follow the music
visually. When working on a new piece or a difficult section, piano
students will wear headphones so they can work independently and the teacher
can offer individual help. New concepts and theory are taught by the
teacher to the group as a whole and reinforced with worksheets and games
designed to make the drill more fun. Acceptance of a transfer student
into a group requires audition to determine level and probability of success
within the group.
New groups typically form in August only. |
