Drums Teacher
Matthew C.

I was first introduced to music through my older brother. Together we would listen to records in the car and he would show me firsthand the passion, variety, and joy that can come from music. After trying my hand at guitar lessons for awhile, I quickly found that it wasn’t the right fit for me. That’s okay though, because trial and error led me to pick up the drumsticks in sixth grade and join the band program. From there on, it was love at first beat. Throughout middle and high school I grew as a percussionist, competing in contests, diving into the vast world of marching band, and making life-long friends along the way. I knew in my heart that music was a part of me. From there, I attended SFASU in Nacogdoches and spent four years studying different styles of music and how to navigate recording equipment and environments. It was there that I cultivated my internal drive to make music my livelihood and to share my knowledge with others. Now that I’m home, I spend most of my time performing and creating music in local bands and churches. However, the real joy comes from showing the ropes to my students. Music is such a beautiful means of expression, and rhythm is no exception, so if I can light up even one person’s life with music, I know I’ve done my job.
