Mary R. has taught piano and harp for over 30 years. She is a lifetime certificated Texas educator, having taught choir and music theory for HISD and Waller ISD (staff accompanist and choir substitute.) Her piano training was at the Layton Boulevard School of Music in Milwaukee, WI where she studied under the School Sisters of St. Francis. She graduated from Alverno College in Milwaukee with a double major in Music Education and Applied Harp. She has certifications in Yamaha and Musikgarten. Mary has spent a good part of the past 5 years in Milwaukee. She taught piano and harp for the Milwaukee Public Schools, where her students won scholarships, 1st places in WSMA, and participated in the Nat’l Piano Guild Auditions. Mary also plays with the Irish Fest Peace and Justice Orchestra, and in two duos: harp/organ and harp/French horn. She is often a guest musician at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brenham. In the harp world, she is best known as co-owner of Melody’s Traditional Music (Cypress, TX), where she works behind the scenes on the website and edits music for Afghan Press Music for the Harp. Mary enjoys gardening for attracting birds and butterflies. She lives in Cypress, TX with husband John, and felines Mia and Suki.
