Rodney M.

Piano Teacher

 

 

After 33 years of full-time teaching, Rodney M. is semiretired. His last position was Director of Choral and Keyboard Activities and faculty of the Brazosport College Department of Music for twenty-eight years. He earned a BM in Piano Performance and MMEd  in Choral Conducting from Texas Tech University. Additional graduate work was completed at Westchester University (PA) and Rider University’s Westminster Choir College (NJ). He holds memberships in the Texas Music Educators Association- serving as Region 17 College Division Chair, the Texas Choral Directors Association, American Choral Directors Association, Jazz Education Network, Music Teachers National Association, Texas Music Teachers Association, and North West Houston Music Teacher Association. He maintains a private voice/piano studio and performs professionally. He has been musical director for numerous musicals in Lubbock, Odessa and Brazosport, and has appeared as piano soloist with the Lubbock Symphony and guest conductor of the Brazosport Symphony Orchestra on several occasions, most recently with the Brazosport Choral Union with Mozart’s Requiem. He served as Music Director for Brazosport’s The Center for the Arts and Sciences’ Elizabethan Madrigal Feast. At Brazosport College he instituted the Brazosport Young People’s Chorus and Klassical Kids Showcase to give opportunities for elementary through high school students to excel in performance experiences with professional musicians. Former teaching positions include Texas Tech, Permian High School, and Brownfield Intermediate and High School. Church positions have included congregations and parishes in Lubbock, Odessa and Lake Jackson. He is currently the organist /choir master/minister of music at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Angleton. He was active in the local Rotary Club, Houston Symphony Chorus, and served on the Brazosport Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors and City of Lake Jackson 50th and 75th Anniversary Committees.
