PRIVATE PIANO LESSONS allow students to progress at their own pace. Students meet with their teacher once per week. Private instruction covers music reading, technique and artistry, music theory, and performance coaching. A variety of styles may be taught such as classical, pop, jazz, and Christian music, according to the student's interests. Following the individual instruction, students have the option to complete a music theory of listening assignment on the computer. Students can start private lessons any time of the year so there's no need to wait to get started. Private instruction is a sound choice for any student. Students who should definitely choose private lessons include those with special needs, those who intend to practice way more than average and want to move along a maximum speed, those whose learn more easily with one-on-one attention, and those who have so many activities that practicing 4-5 days per week isn't feasible.
GROUP PIANO CLASSES for the beginning to early intermediate student provides a psychologically sound atmosphere for learning through teamwork, positive peer influence, and frequent classroom performance opportunities. Students are grouped according to age and ability. The piano classroom is equipped with digital pianos with headphones. During a typical class, the students will play some pieces aloud in unison. This reinforces the necessity of playing with a steady beat and accurate rhythm. At other times, each student will play a section by turns, providing each student he chance to be heard by himself, while teaching the rest of the class to follow the music visually. When working on a new piece of a difficult section, piano students may wear headphones so they can work independently and the teacher can offer individual help. New concepts and theory are taught by the teacher to the group as a whole and reinforced with worksheets and games designed to make the drill more fun. Acceptance of a transfer student into a group requires an audition to determine the level and probability of success within the group. Group piano classes are an excellent choice for students who are focused and not easily distracted, who are motivated by their peers, and who are committed to practice at least 4-5 days per week.
ALL PIANO STUDENTS have the option to become Student Affiliate Members of Texas Music Teachers Association and to participate in festivals, theory exams, publication contests, piano contests, world of music exams, and more.
