Lani H.

Lani is a cellist and musicologist currently located in Houston, TX. She is committed to playing, teaching, and researching musical works by historically underrepresented composers. She is currently studying Musicology at Rice University, where she specializes in female composers in 20th-century France.

Lani began playing the cello at 14 years old, and holds a B.A. in Music from Luther College in Decorah, IA. While there, she was a member of the Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra, and various chamber ensembles. She toured with the Symphony Orchestra for the 2023 Vienna Residency, performing in Graz, Austria and the Konzerhaus in Vienna. She has been invited to participate in numerous music festivals as well, including serving as a Cello Fellow at Lutheran Summer Music and attending the Brevard Music Center summer Orchestra Institute.

Lani has been playing the piano since she was 7 years old, primarily serving in a collaborative role. She has appeared with jazz bands, choirs, and was invited to join the Luther College Concert Band on their international tour to Japan in 2025.

Lani welcomes dedicated and excited students of all ages. She enjoys exploring many musical styles and interests, and is excited to support students in developing their love for music!
