Dr. Wagner Mauricio Pástor, born in Quito, Ecuador, has garnered recognition in the field of opera and vocal performance. His professional engagements include performances with esteemed organizations such as The American Spiritual Ensemble, Kentucky Opera/Santa Fe Opera, North Carolina Summer Opera, South Bend Lyric Opera, the Bay View Music Association, the A. J. Fletcher Opera Institute, Piedmont Opera, the Ecuador National Symphony Orchestra, the Sucre National Theater, Cincinnati Opera, and the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Players Association.
In 2020, Dr. Pástor was honored with the Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in Lexington, KY. He was also a semifinalist in both the Saengerbund Awards in Houston, TX, and the Opera Premier Foundation Vocal Competition in New York City. Most recently, he achieved second place in the Professional Voice Category at the London International Music Competition and was finalist in both the Detroit Opera Aria Competition and the Classical Singer Magazine in San Francisco, CA. Wagner has performed a variety of leading romantic tenor roles, including Alfredo in Verdi's *La Traviata*, Werther in Massenet's *Werther*, Don José in Bizet's *Carmen*, Nemorino in Donizetti's *L'elisir d'amore*, and Rodolfo in Puccini's *La Bohème*. In the Fall of 2022, he performed Tamino in Mozart's *Die Zauberflöte* with the University of Kentucky Opera Theater.
Dr. Pástor holds a diploma in Arts from the Conservatorio Superior Nacional de Música del Ecuador and a degree in Engineering with a focus on Geography and Regional Planning from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador. He earned a Master of Music degree from the University of Idaho and was awarded a Professional Artist Certificate from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Wagner received his Doctorate in Musical Arts with a concentration in Voice Performance at the University of Kentucky, under the mentorship of Dr. Everett McCorvey and vocal coach Professor Cliff Jackson.
Wagner loves nurturing the art of singing within several musical styles from tango, bolero, rock, to art song and opera. Wagner is happily married to a highly regarded soprano and both enjoy time with their little cat Carterito in Katy, TX.
